Carol Ann Kelly
Carol Ann (Haynes) Kelly passed away September 11, 2020, surrounded by loving family while in Mayo Hospice Care at the Stewartville Care Center in Stewartville, MN following a recent hip fracture and chronic health conditions including an AVM, COPD and dementia.
Carol, 76, was born September 28, 1943, in Shell Lake, WI to Laura (Haynes) Volkmann. She graduated from Janesville High School in 1961 in Janesville, MN. Carol married Leroy E. Frisk after high school and they had a son, Clint. They later divorced. On May 29, 1969, Carol married James M. Kelly, Sr. in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The couple of 48 years had three children together and lived their entire lives in the Rochester and Stewartville, MN area.
Carol had many talents such as painting, leatherwork and working on cars. She also loved gardening and her many cats. Carol worked as a tech tutor in the Auto and Woodshop classes at Mayo High School and John Marshall High School for nearly 17 years until her retirement due to health issues. Carol also worked as a florist at Flowers by Jerry and Rennings Flowers.
Carol is survived by her sons, Clint (Deb) Kelly of Rochester and James (Annette) Kelly, Jr. of Rochester, her daughters, Chris (Lance) Jackels of Eden Prairie and Lori Bratvold of Rochester, her grandchildren, Grant, Madison, Dakota, Tennor, Sam, Spencer, Sophia, Laiah, a brother, Gordon Haynes of Mankato, and her beloved cat, Goofy.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Kelly, Sr., mother, Laura Volkmann, brother, Doug Volkmann, and son-in-law, Alec Bratvold.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, a small committal service with family will be held at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Preston, MN, which will be her final resting place next to her husband, James, Sr. In lieu of flowers, memorials and condolences can be sent to the family through Macken Funeral Home in Rochester, MN.
