Charles A. Books — Lake City

The memorial service for Charles A. Books will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 20, 2014, at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake City, with Father Joseph P. Pete officiating. Burial will be in Dale Pleasant Prairie Cemetery in rural Zumbro Falls at a later date.

Mr. Books, 78, of Lake City, died late Saturday evening, March 15, 2014, at Mayo Clinic Health System – Lake Hospital.

Charles Amos Books was born March 13, 1936, in Zumbro Township, Wabasha County, to Edward and Elizabeth (Whipple) Books. He attended rural Wabasha County School and Mazeppa High School. He served in the U.S. Army from Nov. 2, 1958, to Nov. 30, 1964. Charles married Rosemary McLaughlin on Nov. 25, 1961, in Hammond. After marriage, they lived in Hammond until moving to Lake City in 1977.Charles was employed by DiAcro from 1970 to 1983 in Lake City. In 1984, he went to work for Rock Wool Co. (Conway US Gypsum) in Red Wing, and was employed there until his retirement in 1998. After his retirement, he worked part-time for the City of Lake City Street Department for 10 1/2 years.

Charles is survived by his children, Lynda (Jeff) Wipperling of Red Wing, Cheryl (Paul) Krage of Winona, Ed (Rose) Books and Kevin Books, both of Lake City; four grandchildren, Meghan and Marissa Wipperling and Caleb and Mason Krage; one brother, Howard (Josephine) Books of Inver Grove Heights; one sister, Betty Schultz of Zumbrota; and one sister-in-law, Marilyn Books of Pine Island.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Rosemary on Jan. 18, 2000, three brothers, James, Lloyd and Donald, and two sisters, Marian Schultz and Margaret Kenitz.

Friends and family may visit from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday, March 20, at St. Mary of The Lake Catholic Church in Lake City.
