Charlotte Schumacher -- Wabasha

Charlotte F. Schumacher, 88, of Wabasha, died Monday, Oct. 12, 2015, at St. Elizabeth's Nursing Home in Wabasha surrounded by her loving family.

She was born Oct. 29, 1926, in Neligh, Neb., the daughter of William and Alma (Peterson) Bennett. She grew up in nearby Elgin, Neb. Charlotte taught country school prior to her marriage to Delbert Schumacher. They were married June 4, 1946, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Elgin. Delbert was a dairy farmer. The family moved to Dumfries, rural Wabasha, in 1957, where he continued his farming practice. Charlotte helped on the farm and she was a homemaker. She and Delbert moved into Wabasha in 1998 when he retired.

She was a member of St. Felix Catholic Church and its Council of Catholic Women. She was also an active volunteer with St. Elizabeth's Hospital Auxiliary and she was a past member of the Wabasha Library Board. Charlotte was a kind friend, a thoughtful letter writer and the baker of the world's best cookies. She loved card playing, bowling and her Monday morning coffee group. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her.

Charlotte was a loving wife to Delbert and a wonderful mother to Sharon (Denis) LaComb of Apple Valley, Roger (Kathy) Schumacher of Eden Prairie, Marla (John) Simmet of Woodbury and Wayne (Barb) Schumacher of New Richmond, Wis.; a grandmother to 13 and a great-grandmother to 21. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Delbert, and her brother, Kenneth Bennett.

A funeral Mass will be offered at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Kellogg, with the Rev. Monsignor Robert Meyer officiating. Interment will follow in St. Felix Cemetery in Wabasha. Casket bearers will be Brita, April and Rebecca Schumacher, Amy LaComb, Melanie McMahon, Amber, Kim and Jennie Poppovich and Lynsey Simmet.

Family and friends may call at the Abbott Funeral Home in Wabasha from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday with a prayer service at 7 p.m. and they may call at the church on Saturday one hour before the Mass.
