Clara D. Wellik -- Stewartville
STEWARTVILLE — The funeral for Clara D. Wellik, 93, of Stewartville, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday (Dec. 1, 2010) at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Pleasant Valley Township, Mower County, with Rev. Ron Prigge officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Wellik died Friday (Nov. 26, 2010), of natural causes, at the Stewartville Care Center, where she had been a resident this past year.
Clara Hattie Della Schulz was born April 28, 1917, in Mower County, to August and Clara (Shulz) Schulz. She grew up on the family farm and attended rural schools. She was married Dec. 2, 1935, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Austin, to Edward J. Wellik. Following their marriage the couple moved to a farm in rural Grand Meadow and continued farming in the Stewartville and Grand Meadow area until moving to Stewartville in 1960.
Mrs. Wellik was a farm wife and homemaker, and also was employed as a sales clerk at Kresges and then Kmart department stores in Rochester for a number of years. Mr. Wellik was employed in security at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester until his retirement.
Mrs. Wellik was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Pleasant Valley, where she was a past member of its Ladies Aid. She enjoyed cooking and baking, was known for her cookies, and especially enjoyed time spent with her family.
Survivors include one daughter and three sons, Edward (Sharon) of Stewartville, Dean (Janice) of Stewartville, Robert of Ashtabula, Ohio, and Carol (Lloyd "Scotty") Lynch of Rochester; 6 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward; her parents; five sisters and one brother.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday (Nov. 30) at Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday morning.
