Cleon Harwick -- Rochester

Cleon Eugene Harwick, 83, died Sunday night, April 8, 2018, at Samaritan Bethany on Eighth Street in Rochester. He had lived there for a short time, having moved from his longtime Rochester home at the Northgate Plaza Apartments.

Born on June 7, 1934, in Kasson, Cleon lived most of his life in Minnesota. After school in Rochester, Cleon enlisted in the Navy and served during the Korean conflict on board the USS Gurke, and received the National Defense Service Medal and the China Service Medal. He was discharged in December 1952, in San Diego.

He attended and graduated from the Rochester Community College with his AA degree in May 1985.

His career life began as a carpenter like his father before him. He held different jobs over the years and has lived in Rochester through many of them. He was a skilled billiards player, liked doing crossword puzzles, playing cribbage, and enjoyed trips to Treasure Island and other casinos.

Cleon married Lorraine Peterson, and they had two daughters. They were later divorced. Cleon married Connie Beshears, and they had one daughter. They were divorced. There are three grandsons.

Cleon was preceded in death by his parents, Roger Brown Harwick and Florence Kathryn (Kleist) Harwick; and a nephew, Jeffery Harwick.

He is survived by his daughters, Pamela (Phil) Bagley of Florida, Lynne Alford of Colorado, and Trisha Kay Gehrman of Oregon; and grandchildren, Garrett Alford, Dylan Gehrman, and Joshua Gehrman. Also surviving are brothers, Roger Duane Harwick, Rolland James Harwick, and David Russell Harwick, all of Rochester; and seven nieces and nephews.
