Delone J. Sawyer — Austin
Delone J. Sawyer, 78, of Austin, died Saturday, Sept. 12, 2015, at Mayo Clinic Health System — Austin after battling ovarian cancer.
Delone Joanne Bakke was born Feb. 15, 1937, in Mabel, to Milford and Josephine (Loing) Bakke. She grew up in Austin, graduating from Austin High School. On Oct. 14, 1958, she was united in marriage to Arlin Sawyer at the St. Olaf Lutheran Church Chapel in Austin. The couple raised two children. The Sawyer family lived on a hobby farm from 1973 to 1999, and then moved back to Austin.
A member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Delone worked in the Hormel Foods Corp. insurance department for 30 years. She enjoyed visiting friends and family and loved to offer her help to those that needed it.
Survivors include her children, Kelly (Joel) Langlie of Ellendale, and Dr. Michael (Stephanie) Sawyer of Rochester; three grandchildren, Jake Langlie, Colin Sawyer and Morgan Sawyer; a brother, Merlin Bakke of California; and a sister-in-law, Adair Sawyer of Austin; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Milford and Josephine Bakke; her husband, Arlin Sawyer; her sister, Judy Swenson; and her brother-in-law, Mervale Sawyer.
Visitation will be at Worlein Funeral Home on Saturday, Sept. 19, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. A private family interment will be held at Oakwood Cemetery, with the Rev. Paul Lutter officiating.
Memorials can be directed to the Mower County Relay for Life or recipient of donor's choice.
