Dolores T. Saunders - Wabasha

Dolores T. Saunders, 83, of Wabasha, died Friday, Oct. 26, 2012, at St. Elizabeth’s Health Care Center in Wabasha, with her loving and faithful husband, David, at her side.

Dolores was born Nov. 12, 1928, in Wabasha, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Koob) Stamschror. She married David D. Saunders Sept. 10, 1947, at St. Felix Catholic Church in Wabasha. She attended and graduated from Wabasha District 3 Pepin Hill School and then stayed on the family farm, helping to carry out the family house work. Later she was employed by the Red Owl grocery store in Wabasha where she met David, her future husband, who operated the Saunders Cafe next door. After their marriage they managed and operated Saunders Cafe until 1987 when they sold the business and retired to their home on Jefferson Avenue in Wabasha.

Dolores was a member of St. Felix Catholic Church and its Council of Catholic Women. She was a member of the Burkhardt-Roemer VFW Auxiliary and the Wabasha American Legion Auxiliary where she served a term as chaplain. In retirement, she was an active volunteer at St. Elizabeth’s Nursing Home in Wabasha. She enjoyed bowling, fishing, playing cards, gardening and with David, they hosted many holiday family gatherings.

Dolores is survived by her husband, David Saunders of Wabasha; a brother, Reverend Robert Stamschror of Winona; two sisters, Mary Ann Witte and Marilyn (Harry) Meyer both of Wabasha; and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Elmer and Lloyd Stamschror and two sisters, Rita Doane and Marvel Magnusson.

A funeral Mass will be offered Tuesday, Oct. 30, at 11 a.m. at St. Felix Catholic Church in Wabasha, with the Reverend Robert Stamschror officiating. Interment will be in St. Felix Cemetery.

Casket bearers will be nieces, Karen Theismann, Lori Perry, Vonnie Schneider, Paula Perry, Sue Barsness, Colleen Welp, Mary Mondry and Bonnie Viscount.

Family and friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. 

Memorials are preferred to St. Felix School and St. Felix Catholic Church.
