Donald C. Mackey — Rochester
Donald C. Mackey passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at Seasons Hospice in Rochester, surrounded by his family.
A memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 25, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Rochester, with the Rev. Mark McNea officiating.Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post 92 following the Mass at the church.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, May 24, in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the Mass at the church on Saturday.
Don was born May 17, 1924, in Rochester. Don played baseball for the Rochester Royals before serving in France during World War II. Upon his return, he married Rosemary Forbes on Aug. 20, 1949. Don was a wonderful husband and father and loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. He was an avid golfer and follower of the Minnesota Twins and Gophers. Don had a long and distinguished career as a mail carrier with the U.S. Postal Service from 1947-1986. He was a devoted steward and charter member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Don also enjoyed volunteering at the Mayo Clinic.
Don was preceded in death by his father, Captain Peter Mackey RFD, mother, Louise, and sister, Mary Lou Harris.
He is survived by his loving wife, Rosemary; and children, Timothy (Elizabeth) Mackey, Jane (Patrick) Farrell, Patrick (Laurie) Mackey, Gerald Mackey, Colleen (David) Sawinski, James (Brenda) Mackey, Paul Mackey, and Charles (Karen) Mackey; and 13 grandchildren.
The Mackey family wishes to express their appreciation to Seasons Hospice for the excellent care Don received in his final days.
