Donald R. Smith - Spring Valley

Funeral services for Donald R. Smith will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 22, 2012, at the Hindt Funeral Home in Spring Valley, with the Rev. Peter Skogerbo officiating. Burial will be in the Spring Valley Cemetery.

Donald R, Smith, 89, of Spring Valley, died Saturday, March 17, 2012, at the Whitewater-Golden Living Center in St. Charles, where he had resided for approximately a year and half.

Donald was born July 3, 1922, in Spring Valley, to Emanuel and Edith Lulu (Bumgardner) Smith.

He was united in marriage to Shirley Ann Paulson on April 20, 1968, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Stewartville, where he was a faithful member until moving to Tucson, Ariz., in 1977. Donald and Shirley were later divorced.

While living in Tucson, he was a member of the Pantono Christian Church until moving back to Spring Valley in 1997. After moving back to Spring Valley, he worked for Seneca Foods. Donald was always willing to help anyone who asked, he enjoyed visiting with friends and also enjoyed bowling at Spring Valley Lanes.

He is survived by one sister, Leona Smith of Harmony, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and one sister.
