Doris Elaine Schnell — Millville

Doris Elaine Schnell, 86, of Millville, died at her home Wednesday, July 3, 2013, surrounded by her loving family, following a brief illness.

Doris Plank was born July 21, 1926, in Plainview, to Cyril and Mary (Heddlesten) Plank. She attended the Giem Country School. In December 1945, Doris was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Elgin. On June 15, 1946, Doris married Robert Schnell, Jr. at Trinity Lutheran Church. The couple farmed in Oakwood Township, Wabasha County, their entire married life.

Doris was a member of the Bremen Trinity Lutheran Church and the ladies aid. She taught Sunday school and served on the school board as treasurer. Following the closure of the Bremen church, she and Robert joined Christ Our Rock Lutheran Church in Rochester. Doris had been active in 4-H, the Hill and Valley Home Extension Group and was a former member of the Millville Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed her flower gardens, fishing, the family vacations to the lake and spending time with her family and friends.

Doris is survived by her husband, Robert; seven children, Cyril "Sam" (Betty) Schnell of Melrose, Edward (Lorraine) Schnell of Lewiston, Russell (Sandy) Schnell of Bloomer, Wis., Lonnie (Laura) Schnell of Millville, Marcy (James) Dose of Lake City, Peggy Tentis of Millville, and Missy (Mark) Bartsh of Plainview; 18 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two brothers, William "Bud" (June) Plank of Rochester, Richard (Sylvia) Plank of Tucson, Ariz.; one sister, Betty (Sylvester) Shones of Millville; and sister in-law, Delores Plank of Wisconsin.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, Thomas; two brothers, Don and Harold; and one sister, Dollie.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 8, at Christ Our Rock Lutheran Church in Rochester, with the Rev. Jeff Limpert officiating. Burial will be at the Elgin Cemetery.

Friends may call on Sunday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Schad & Zabel Funeral Home in Plainview, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.

Memorials are preferred to Christ Our Rock Lutheran Church or Mayo Hospice, Wabasha.
