Dorothy A. Mathews — Lake City

Dorothy A. Mathews, of Lake City, passed away Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, at Mayo Health Systems, Lake City Hospital.

She was born Jan. 23, 1910, in Iowa Falls, Iowa, to William and Claudia (Bates) Jessup. She attended Catholic school in Dougherty, Iowa, graduating in 1927. She married Harold R. Mathews April 30, 1927, in Webster City, Iowa. They lived in Dougherty, Iowa, and then in Charles City, Iowa, and then moved to Austin, where they remained for 27 years before moving to Rochester, and then finally to Lake City in 1970. Dorothy worked as a housekeeper.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church. She was involved with Birthday Club in Lake City and with Rebecca's Lodge in Rochester.

Dorothy is survived by two daughters, Darlene Meineke of Allan, Texas, and Beverly (Donald ) Temte of Bloomington; five sons, William (Pat ) of Rockford, Ill., Ronald (Dixie) of Rhinelander, Wis., David (Pat) of Lake City, Keith of Wakefield, Mich., and Gregory of Ventura, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Glenita Moore of Oakley, Kan.

Dorothy was preceded in death by a grandson, Jim Meineke; three sisters, Gladys Campbell, Helen Mullin, and Mildred McMenimen.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, Jan. 22, at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Lake City, with the Reverend Kristine Marshall officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens in Rochester. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the United Methodist Church.
