Dr. Ervin Stanley Boone — Rochester
Dr. Ervin Stanley Boone, 89, died at Madonna Meadows Assisted Living, Rochester, on Sunday, March 9, 2014.
Ervin was born Oct. 22, 1924, in Stone Lake, Wis.He attended the University of Wisconsin, where he received his BS degree in 1945. In 1949, he received his Doctorate of Medicine (MD) from the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Medicine.Ervin's family practice residency training was at the University of Nebraska - Omaha.Dr. Boone was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha.He established his medical practice in Luverne in January 1950.
Dr. Boone practiced medicine in Luverne for 32 years. He retired in 1982. He continued his medical work in Sun City, Ariz., where he was an emergency room physician in two hospitals.Dr. Boone also practiced medical mission work in Honduras and for the Wisconsin Tribal Health Programs.Ervin served on the Southwestern Medical Association and as a trustee for the Minnesota Medical Association. He was an honorary member of the American Medical Association and Minnesota Medical Association.
Ervin served on various committees as a member of the Luverne United Methodist Church, was a Luverne city councilman and belonged to Rotary International. While residing in Rochester, the past 10 years Dr. Boone was a research study participant enrolled in the Mayo Clinic Robert and Arlene Kogod Program on Aging, Rochester.
He had a love for music. Singing, playing the organ and piano brought him great joy. Ervin was a trombone player and a member of a Sun City, Ariz., dance band and concert band.
Ervin married his wife of 69 years, Evelyn Mae Titus, July 5, 1945, in Stone Lake, Wis.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn, Rochester; and four daughters,Janet (Delbert) Jessen, Minnetonka, Jeanne (John) Bowron, Luverne, Jane (Jim) Golla, McAlester, Okla., and Jodie Boone, and her children, Saraphia (Jason) Magill, Mathew Orke and Isabelle Orke, all of Rochester.Ervin is survived by 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers; and two sisters.
There will be a memorial service at Christ United Methodist Church in Rochester, Saturday, April 26, 2014, at 1 p.m.
Dr. Boone has donated his body for research to the Department of Anatomy at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minn.
