Dr Lawrence B Perry

Dr. Lawrence Burdett Perry, age 93, of Rochester, MN, died Friday, April 23, 2021 at Charter House-Mayo Clinic.

Larry was born on May 12, 1927 to parents Raymond and Carolyn (Burdett) Perry in Ossining, NY. He grew up in Glen Ridge, NJ. After graduating from Glen Ridge High School in 1945, Larry served in the United States Marine Corps at the end of World War II. He then attended Dartmouth College where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, was a starting cornerback on the football team, and received his B.A. in 1950. He attended the University of Vermont, College of Medicine, receiving his M.D. in 1953. Following a two-year internship at Ellis Hospital, Schenectady, NY, he engaged in general practice in Schenectady and Laramie, WY. Larry entered the United States Army Medical Service in 1962 and completed his residency in Anesthesiology at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Washington D.C. and Fitzsimons Army Hospital, Aurora, CO. Larry served in Vietnam from July, 1967 to July 1968, and provided medical support on the recovery ships for the Gemini Mission GT-7/6 in 1965, the Apollo 10 Mission in 1969, and the Apollo 12 Mission in 1969. Larry joined the Mayo Clinic (Anesthesia) in Rochester, MN in 1970, where he served as a Consultant until his retirement in 1986. Larry and his wife Jody enjoyed their retirement years at their home on Gunflint Lake near Grand Marais, MN where Larry loved to fish and hunt.

Survivors include Jody, his wife of 62 years, his children Chris (Ellie) Perry, Betsy (Stan Pelto) Perry, Cathy Perry, Dana (Amy) Perry, Starr (Jim Burns) Jenkins, and Raymond (Alisa) Perry, 7 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Raymond Perry, sister Caroline Harwood, ex- wife Martha Perry, and daughter Rachel Perry.
