Dr. Lori A. Jones

Lori, 60, died in Seattle on June 23, 2021, following a 7 year battle with cancer. She was born on June 15, 1961, in Rochester to Maynard and Marlys (Sorum) Jones. 

Lori graduated from Mayo High School in 1979. While in school, she participated in volleyball, basketball and softball. She was the recipient of a scholarship from a local radio station for outstanding achievement in sports, school and community. Lori was active in girl scouts, becoming a camp counselor at Whispering Hills girl scout camp. The year she graduated, she was a counselor at a camp in Carnation, Washington. That is when she decided she wanted to live in Washington.

Lori graduated from Luther College Magna Cum Laude with a B.A. in Biology and Chemistry in 1983. She received a Ph.D. from the University of Kentucky in 1988. She did research in labs at National Institute of Health and in Amsterdam before moving to Seattle in 1993.  She did research for several bio-tech companies in Seattle. 

Lori loved to travel. She went to all 7 continents. She liked hiking, photography, playing and watching soccer and her cats. 

Lori is survived by her parents; brother, Randy, of Rochester; and sister, Cindy, of Minneapolis.

Lori believed in charities, so please give your memorials to a charity of your choice. 

A celebration of life open house for Lori will be held on July 29 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Eagles, 416 15th Ave SE Rochester.
