Duane 'Pete' Albers — Eyota

The funeral service for Duane "Pete" Albers will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 23, 2013, at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Plainview Chapel in Plainview, with Chaplain Carol Shaffer of Season's Hospice officiating.

Mr. Albers, 73, of Eyota, died Monday, March 18, 2013, at his home in rural Eyota, of complications of Progressive Supra Neuro Disease.

Duane Ernest Albers was born Oct. 27, 1939, in Pipestone, to George and Mary (Botsford) Albers. He attended schools in Villard. Duane married Bonny Dewey on Sept. 15, 1955, at Glenwood Lutheran Church in Glenwood. They moved to Sac City, Iowa, where Duane worked as a bee keeper and at a small grocery store until moving back to the Rochester area. He then worked at Piggly Wiggly and Larson Standard in Rochester, and for Foss Refrigeration in Stewartville, in plumbing and heating before moving to rural Eyota in 1968. Duane started his own business, Albers Plumbing and Heating, in 1970, working with his sons, Dean as a partner and William part-time, he retired in 1977. He raised horses all the years they lived on the farm. Pete also drove school bus for Kurths in Elgin for many years.

He enjoyed the horses; hunting, fishing and spending time with his family and family gatherings.

Pete is survived by his wife, Bonny Albers of rural Eyota; his sons, Bartlet (Mary) Albers of rural Eyota, Duane L. Albers of Rochester, Dean (Cindy) Albers of Plainview, and William (Laurie) Albers of Eyota; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; six brothers, Virgil (Roberta) Albers of Charleston, S.C., John (Clare) Albers of Boston, Mass., Marvin Albers of Hills, S.D., Jerry (Joan) Albers of Villard, Roger (Kathy) Albers of Glenwood, and Robert (Audrey) Albers of Ravenal, S.C.; two sisters, Deloris (Don) Lorang and Della Lorang both of Sioux Falls, S.D.

Duane is also survived by his mother-in-law, Ethel Dewey, of Eyota.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mary Albers, sister and brother-in-law, Darlene and Floyd Johnson, sisters-in-law, Thelma Albers and June Albers, brothers-in-law, Vince Lorang and Don Lorang, sister-in-law, Phyllis Dewey, father-in-law, Dwight Dewey, and nephew, Lawrence Hoffman.

Friends and family may visit from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, March 23, at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Plainview Chapel prior to the service.
