Ed R. Wheeler — Lake City

Ed R. Wheeler, 94, transitioned to his new life Tuesday, May 5, 2015.

Born April 2, 1921, in Minneapolis, to Clarence and Marie Wheeler, Ed was a probation officer in Hennepin County. He served in the Coast Guard in World War II, and during that time married his high school sweetheart, Elayne, who preceded him in death after 25 years of marriage. Together they had seven children, Terry Nelson, Mikel Wheeler, Mary (Bryan) Beggin, Joe Wheeler, Colette (Kay) Sweeney, Cathy Wheeler and Lee (Dan) Shelstad.

Ed married Rose in 1975 and they lived in Idaho for 14 years until her death. Ed returned to the Midwest; reconnecting and marrying his beloved, Betty Jeanne "BJ,"where they lived in Gordon, Wis., for 20 years.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake City at 11 a.m. Monday, May 11, with Father Jim Kinney and Father Joseph Pete co-officiating. Burial will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

A visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 10, at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Anderson-Peterson Chapel in Lake City, and one hour prior to the service at church.

Memorials are preferred to Doctors without Borders or People Inspire Progress.
