Eileen Schroeder - Stewartville
STEWARTVILLE — The funeral for Eileen Schroeder, 79, of Stewartville, will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 22, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Pleasant Valley Township. The Rev. Ronald Prigge will officiate, and burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Schroeder died Friday of natural causes at Seasons Hospice in Rochester, where she had been a patient this past week.
Lois Eileen Schroeder was born July 6, 1930, in Tower Hill, Ill., to Grant and Velma (Morgan) Langworthy. She moved with her family as a child to a farm at rural Dodge Center and graduated from Dodge Center High School in 1948. The Langworthy Family moved to a farm in rural Racine Township, and Eileen was employed at the Spring Valley Greenhouse. She was married on May 29, 1955, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Pleasant Valley, to Norbert W. Schroeder. Following their marriage the couple moved to the Schroeder family farm in Racine Township, where they farmed, raised their family and lived for many years.
Mrs. Schroeder was a farm wife and homemaker. She was also employed as a part-time flower arranger at the Spring Valley Greenhouse, Holm and Olson in Rochester, Russert Gardens and The Flower Barn, both of Stewartville. She also was self-employed as a cake decorator for a number of years. Mr. Schroeder farmed for many years and was the owner of Schroeder Insurance Co. for 28 years. The Schroeders moved to the Stewartvilla Apartments in 2006. Mr. Schroeder died on Feb. 7, 2009.
Eileen was a longtime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, was active in Ladies Aid and sang in the choir. She was a past 4-H leader and a member of the Stewartville American Legion Auxillary. She particularly enjoyed following her children and grandchildren's school and sport activities and also enjoyed ceramics, bird watching and visiting with friends, especially all her Stewartvilla Apartment neighbors.
Survivors include her daughter, Vicky (Karey) DeFrang of rural Racine Township; her son, Terry (Pat) of Stewartville; five grandchildren, Katie, Eric and Beth Schroeder, and Scott and Ryan Schaefer; three step-grandchildren, Josh, Jenna and Jarett DeFrang; and two great-grandchildren, Brayden and Malyk.
She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, March 21, at Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday morning.
