Eilene M. Deming — Hastings

Eilene M. Deming, 83, of Hastings died Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013, at her home.

Eilene was born Feb. 2, 1930, in Wabasha, to Irvin and Florence (Lauger) Balow. She was a graduate of St. Felix High School in Wabasha and married Lawrence Rubin in 1952. Following his death in 1978, Eilene married Eugene Deming in 1984. He died in 1985. Prior to her retirement, she had worked as a medical transcriptionist at Regina Hospital in Hastings, the VA Hospital in Minneapolis and the Hastings State Hospital.

Eilene was an avid sports fan and enjoyed both polka music and bowling.

Eilene is survived by her son, Ronald (Karen) Rubin, of Hastings; grandchildren, Lisa (Clay) Thompson, Bryan (Jill) Rubin and Katie (Wayne) Litschke; great-grandchildren, Deven, Kiley, Kody, Jakob, Gabriella, Nolan, Jaden, Colten and Aubrey; and brothers, Eugene (Alvina) Balow, of Frontenac, Robert (friend, Sammy) Balow, of Bakersfield, Calif., Richard (MaryJo) Balow, of Prior Lake, and James (Mary) Balow, of Bethesda, Md.

The funeral Mass, officiated by the Rev. Fernando Ortega, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2035 W. 15th St. in Hastings.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 7, at Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home, 201 E. Seventh St. in Hastings, and one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.

Pallbearers are David Balow, Phillip Balow, Thomas Balow, Dan Giles, Joe O'Connor and Bruce Benrud.
