Elizabeth A. ‘Bette’ McGrath — Wabasha

Elizabeth A. (Mrs. Daniel) "Bette" McGrath, 84, of Wabasha, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014, at St. Elizabeth's Health Care Center in Wabasha. She was born Aug. 24, 1929, in Wabasha, the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Miller) Kohn. She was a graduate of St. Felix High School. She married Daniel McGrath June 23, 1951, at St. Felix Catholic Church.

Bette was a member of St. Felix Catholic Church and its Council of Catholic Women. She was also a member and past president of the Wabasha American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 50. In her younger years, she was a member of the Haha Marimba Band in Wabasha, playing the maracas.

She loved decorating her home inside and out for the holidays throughout the year for the enjoyment of her family and the Wabasha community. Her interests also included painting, baking, especially at Christmastime with her butter cookies and other sweets and making her delicious German potato salad. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren.

Bette is survived by her husband, Daniel McGrath, Wabasha; sons and daughters-in-law, Patrick and Lori McGrath, Nelson, Wis., Michael and Lori McGrath, Wabasha; daughters, Dawn McGrath, Onalaska, Wis., Renee McGrath, Reads Landing; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law, Yvonne and Leo Meyer, Wabasha, Helen MacDougall, Wabasha; sister-in-law, Marietta Kohn, Wabasha; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Elizabeth Kohn; brothers, Joe and Sam Kohn; sister, Mary McGrath; and infant nephew, Bruce Meyer.

A funeral Mass will be offered on Monday, Aug. 25, 2014, at 11 a.m. at St. Felix Catholic Church, with the Rev. Monsignor Thomas Cook officiating. Interment will be in St. Felix Cemetery. Casket bearers will be David Mac-Williams, Tom McGrath, Joe McGrath, Sean and Dillon McGrath and Jared McGrath. Honorary bearer will be Jasmine Kennebeck. Family and friends may call at the Abbott Funeral Home on Sunday from 2-6 p.m., where there will be a prayer service at 6 p.m., and they may call at the church on Monday one hour before the service.
