Elizabeth 'Liz' Picha — Winona

With great sadness, the family of Elizabeth "Liz" E. Picha announces her death at her home, with family at her side, on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2015.

She was born Nov. 5, 1927, in Dover, to Erich and Abbie Mae (Kinsman) Doering. She graduated from Winona High School Class of 1945. Liz furthered her education by graduating from Kahler School of Nursing in 1948. She worked as a nurse for the Anchor Hospital in St. Paul, VA Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.; and the Community Memorial Hospital in Winona.

On April 28, 1951, Liz married Fred Picha at St. Thomas Pro-Cathedral in Winona. They made their home in Winona where they raised their seven children. Liz enjoyed doing many things. She golfed, quilted and played cards. Her proudest accomplishment was raising her seven children.

Liz was an active community member. She was a parishioner of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Liz belonged to the Winona Shriners, Westfield Golf, Pleasant Valley Social Club and the Winona Historical Society.

Liz is preceded in death by her parents and husband, Fred (2011).

She is survived by her children, Cathy (Doug) Batzler of Dousman, Wis., Dan (Angela Arelliano-Sanchez) of Fountain City, Wis., Tom Picha and Matt Picha, both of Winona, Patty Barnes, of Winona, Sue (Brett) Parks, of Rochester and Andy (Jody) Picha, of Rochester; 16 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Ann Draugelis, of Anaheim, Calif., Ida Mae Cornelius, of Minneapolis; many relatives and friends.

A visitation will be held Tuesday, Feb. 3, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. at Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, Feb. 4, at 12:30 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with visitation one hour prior in the church commons. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Dover.
