Esther Martha Terrell

Esther Martha (Moravec) Terrell, 96, died peacefully on July 12, 2020. Born fifth of six children on August 5, 1923 she grew up in St. Paul, Minnesota’s East Side neighborhood. She spoke fondly of times spent at Wilder Nursery, the State Fair, dances at the Polish Hall, and Johnson High School where she graduated at age 16. While attending Mankato State Teachers College she met and married Lomand Terrell. The bombing of Pearl Harbor forever changed the course of their lives. They moved to San Francisco where they both worked in the shipyards. After the war they moved to Albert Lea, MN and then settled in Rochester. Esther was proud to have had a 20-year career with the Mayo Clinic as a payroll clerk at St. Mary’s Hospital. Preceded in death by all of her siblings, her son Philip and step-son David. Survived by her children Terry, James, Barry, Kathleen, and Bonnie, stepsons Ronald and Steven, 48 grand/great/great-great grandchildren, and many dear nieces and nephews. Esther will be remembered for her strong will, love of family, playful nature, exuberant laughter, her unrestrained joy in singing and dancing, and her steadfast trust in God. As a child of the Great Depression she was frugal to the extreme, yet generous with family or a good cause. Thank you to her many friends at Realife Cooperative whose kindness she always appreciated. In lieu of a funeral Esther preferred a small family graveside gathering at Evergreen Community Cemetery in Afton, MN. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Memorials are referred to the charity of your choice.
