Eugene O. Smith — Lake City
The memorial service for Eugene O. Smith will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, at the Lake City Sportsman Club in Lake City, with Father Joseph Pete officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Lake City.
Mr. Smith, 63, of Lake City, died Dec. 22, 2012, at his home in Lake City.
Eugene Orville Smith was born Oct. 4, 1949, in Austin, to Orville V. and Margaret B. (Bigelow) Smith. He attended elementary and high school in Austin, graduating in 1967, and then attended Austin Community College.
Eugene served his country in the U.S. Army from March 27, 1969, to March 1, 1975. After serving in the Vietnam War, he moved to Minneapolis for several years. He then moved to Lake City in 1975, where he worked for his brother, Kenneth, at Smitty's Marine Inc. retiring in 2011.
Eugene was a season ticket holder for the Minnesota Vikings, and was a member of the Bowling League in Lake City for several years. He enjoyed yard work, taking care of his flowers and watching the birds and animals. Eugene especially enjoyed visiting with the seasonal people at Lake Pepin Campground.
Eugene is survived by one sister, Patricia (Thomas) Higgins, of Austin; three brothers, Kevin (Sandy) Smith and Kenneth (Merri Lea) Smith, both of Lake City and Christopher (Sherri) Smith, of Woodbury; and nieces and nephews, Gina Higgins, Angela Higgins, Scott Higgins, Trina Ohde, Jennie Smith Morris, Benjamin Smith, Joshua Smith, Melinda Smith, Korissa Smith, Alexandra Smith and Nathan Smith.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends and family may visit from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11, at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Lake City Chapel in Lake City, and one hour prior to the service at the Lake City Sportsman Club Saturday, Jan. 12.
Memorials are preferred.
