Evelyn S. Dragvold Jonak — Grand Island, Neb.

Evelyn Shirley "Evie" Dragvold Jonak, 71, of Grand Island, Neb.,entered Heaven's gate Sunday, Sept. 21, 2014.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, at Faith LutheranChurch in Blackhammer, with Pastor Leonard Liptack officiating.Burial will be in church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday,Sept. 26, at the Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel, and one hour prior toservices at the church.

Evie was born March 24, 1943, in Rushford, to Martin andGilma (Treangen) Dragvold. Evie was united in marriage to the father of herson, Larry Jonak in Rockford, Ill. She lived in La Crosse, Wis., and SpringGrove, moving to Grand Island in 1968. While in Minnesota, Evie wasemployed by Rush Products. In Grand Island, her employment included GIA,Pacific Tool, Delicious Foods and Sleep Inn.

Evie's nurturing spirit wasalways present. She raised her two nieces, with the help of her sisters andbrother. Their Norwegian heritage was evident when Evelyn's siblings gottogether and they spoke their "old-world" language. Always putting othersahead of herself, Evie loved spending time with her family, especially hergrandson.

Her hobbies included ceramics, watching "Wheel of Fortune," playingcards and cooking. Evie's specialty was chicken noodle soup "For the Soul"and there was a life lesson with every mouthful.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Robert Jonak of GrandIsland; grandson, Taylor Jonak of Omaha and his fiancee, Rachael Parker;sisters, Marlene (George) Morken of Spring Grove, Charlotte (Bill)LaBonne of Canton and Linda Gorder of Peterson; several nieces andnephews; and her grand-doggy, Dozer.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Robert's father, Larry Jonak;brother, Gerald Dragvold and sister, Helen Valedez.

The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to all of Evie'smerciful caregivers.
