Gary Louis Kobi — Longville

Gary Louis Kobi, 72, of Longville, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2013, at his home.

Gary was born March 28, 1941, in Hackensack, to Lenoel and Hilda (Holmberg) Kobi. At a young age, his family moved to Rochester, where Gary attended school and graduated from John Marshall High School. He then enlisted in the United States Navy. After being honorably discharged, he returned to Rochester and began his career in maintenance at the Rochester Airport. In 2004, Gary and Dee moved north to Longville and enjoyed retirement on Girl Lake.

Gary enjoyed fishing, remodeling, small engine repair and anything that kept him busy, or enabled him to lend a hand to others in need. He had great skill and received much enjoyment in his "mastery of the bar-be-que." Gary had a great sense of humor and was creative, hardworking, selfless, gentle and kind with a big heart and big smile to match. He thoroughly enjoyed his Longville Lakes Clinic family. Most of all he loved his family, especially his three grandsons.

Gary is survived by his wife, Dee; daughter, Melissa Ann Douglas (Dan); son, Benjamin (Sara) Kobi; grandsons, Owen, Sean, Harrison; brother, Don Kobi (Sandra); sister, Carol (Dale) Michaelson; and sisters-in-law, Terri Thompson and Julie Sorensen (Randy).

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Madelon and stepbrother John Dunford.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at Salem Lutheran Church in Longville, with the Rev. Paul Svingen officiating. A gathering time for family and friends will begin at 1 p.m.

Memorials preferred to the American Heart Association.
