George W. Judy — Whalan

George W. Judy, 94, formerly of Whalan, died Monday, Dec. 16, 2013, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home.

George was born March 17, 1919, in Springfield, S.D., In October 1941. George served for the U.S. Army until December 1945. During World War II, George was stationed on the Aleutian Island and the Philippine Islands. After returning to the U.S., he was united in marriage to Etta Mae Good. Together they farmed in rural Whalan and raised one daughter, Karla.

As a World War II veteran, George was very proud to serve as a commander for the American Legion for many years. He always felt honored to perform military honors for countless veterans. One of George's favorite pastimes was watching the Minnesota Twins. In his later years during the baseball season, he would watch almost everyday. He also enjoyed going to watch the Whalan fast-pitch softball team. As a caring father and grandfather, he will be sadly missed.

George is survived by his daughter, Karla (Ellsworth) Holland of Rushford; grandchildren, Terry (Mona) Holland of League City, Texas and Lisa (Bobby) Mort of Chambersburg, Pa.; great-grandchildren, Jake, Ashley, Emily and Aaron; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Etta Mae; infant son, Galen Francis; and all of his brothers and sisters.

Services for George will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20, at Rushford Lutheran Church.

Visitation will take place at Hoff Funeral Home in Rushford from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19. Burial will be held at a later date at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
