Gweneth Y. Thomforde - Goodhue

LAKE CITY — Gweneth Yvonne Thomforde, 88, of Goodhue, died Christmas Day at the Lake City Nursing Home.

She was born on Nov. 24, 1922, in Red Wing, to Almer and Edith (Haller) Kolberg. She graduated in 1941 from Red Wing Central High School. She worked as a bookkeeper at Frederich and Kemp, served in the WAVES in Washington, and then worked for SB Foot Tannery. On Sept. 30, 1950, she married Wayne Thomforde at United Lutheran Church in Red Wing. They farmed for many years in Belvidere Township.

She was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Belvidere. She enjoyed baking, playing cards and being with her family and friends. Her family remembers how she enjoyed being a homemaker, living in the country, and making many of her meals from scratch.

Survivors include her husband, Wayne; seven children, Jayne Buck of Denver, Colo., Henry (Kathy) Thomforde of Goodhue, Paul (Karen) Thomforde of Phoenix, Ariz., Kevin (Madonna) Thomforde, Gail (Dale) Dicke and Craig (LaVonne) Thomforde, all of Goodhue, and Karl (Deb) Thomforde of Northfield; 26 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; one brother, James (Joyce) Kolberg of Granada Hills, Calif.; five sisters, Norma Thomforde of Goodhue, Dorothy Jagusch of Red Wing, Pat (Jerry) Borgen of Red Wing, Sue (Merl) Hokenstrom of Winona and Sandra Thompson of Collegeville, Pa.; nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Marion Kolberg of Red Wing; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lorraine and Bob Gieseke of Truman, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Byron and Thomas.

Funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Belvidere, with Rev. Scott Fiege officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel in Red Wing, and at the church for one hour prior to the service.
