Harold C. Renner — Rochester

Harold C. Renner, 73, of Rochester, died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2014, at Cottagewood Senior Communities.

Harold Charles Renner was born April 25, 1941, to Harold and Margery (Geschwind) Renner in Springfield. Harry proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for four years. Harry married Ethel Hinshaw in Great Falls, Mont., on June 8, 1963. During his 32-year career with IBM, Harry worked his way up from assembler to programmer to manager.

Harry coached his own kids and many others in youth sports over the course of 40 years. He was also very active in the RCYBA (Rochester Community Youth Basketball Association). After his retirement from IBM, he coached girls' basketball at St. Charles High School. He was an active member at Christ United Methodist Church where he served as president of the foundation, also treasurer and member of the choir. Harry enjoyed fishing, woodworking and especially spending time with his family.

Harry is survived by his wife of 51 years, Ethel; his children, Bobbie (Gregory) Gallas of Rochester, Connie (Joel) Roetzer of Hudson, Wis., and Russell (Carrie) Renner of Lakeville; eight grandchildren, Codey and Kylar Gallas, Carmen and Conner Roetzer, Will, Ellie, John and Annie Renner; and three sisters, Eileen (Denton) Kohlhof of Springfield, Margie Renner of Springfield and Janelle (Mel) Hopp of Nicollet.

He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Russell.

There will be a funeral service Saturday, Nov. 29, at 10 a.m. at Christ United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Nancy Wheeler Handlon officiating.

Visitation will take place from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes on Friday, Nov. 28, and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. Burial will take place at Oakwood East, with military honors provided by American Legion Post #92.

Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association, Salvation Army Adult Day Care Program or Season's Hospice.
