Hazel T. Severson — Clear Lake, Iowa

Hazel T. Severson, 95, of Clear Lake, Iowa, died Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27, at the Clear Lake Christian Church in Clear Lake, with Pastor Scott Wilson officiating. Visitation will be held an hour-and-a-half prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery in Forest City, Iowa.

Hazel T. Severson was born in Forest City, Iowa, Sept. 12, 1918, the daughter of Osmund and Ovedia (Gjovik) Heimdal. She grew up on a farm near Forest City and attended country school near her home.On Feb. 25, 1939, she was united in marriage to Fred Severson. The couple made their home in Forest City and raised three daughters: Lois, Helen and Mary.

Hazel enjoyed being part of her church. She loved gardening and making lefsa for the holidays. She looked forward to going fishing with her family and friends each year. For several seasons, she spent the winter months in Texas and Arkansas. She also loved her trips to China, Hawaii and Israel.

Hazel is survived by her daughter, Lois (Lowell) Emrud of Dodge Center; son-in-law, Wayne Smith of Clear Lake; son-in-law, Sid (Shirley) Jordahl of Rochester; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fred; two daughters, Mary Jordahl and Helen Smith; her brothers, Edwin Heimdal, Sam Heimdal, Alfred Heimdal and Otis Heimdal; and a sister, Jennie Burrel.
