Irene Abbott - Lake City
Irene Abbott, 100, of Lake City died Nov. 12, 2012 at the Mayo Health System – Lake City Care Center.
She was born November 12, 1912 in Elgin, Minn., to James and Cora (Tyler) Tittrington. She attended school and graduated from high school in Elgin. She married Wallace Abbott Aug. 27, 1938. They farmed in the Elgin area for 30 years until retiring in 1972. After retiring, they moved to Lake City in 1973.
Irene was a member of the Lake City United Methodist Church. She was a member of the United Methodist Women, Order of the Eastern Star for 60 years, hospital auxiliary for 30 years, 4-H leader for 10 years, and the Lake City Senior Citizens, where she was presented with the Outstanding Senior Citizen Award in 1985. She also organized the ladies kitchen band and was an avid gardener. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family.
She is survived by her daughter, Gayle (Stanley) Bressner of Winston, Ga.; two granddaughters, Carol Hunsaker of Atlanta, Ga. and Pauline Sannes of Moorhead; and one great-granddaughter Holly Hunsaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace; grandson, David Seifert; sister Mary Prescher; and brother Art Tittrington.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Lake City with Reverend Kristine Marshall officiating. Burial will be in the Elgin Cemetery.
