Jacob Sanders — Rochester

Jacob J. Sanders, 90, of Rochester, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2015, at his home.

Jacob was born Dec. 26, 1924, in Connelsville, Mo., to Lemuel and Edna (Gray) Sanders. He was a 1942 graduate of Kirksville High School and a 1950 graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Madison, with a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering. On Aug. 23, 1946, Jacob married Bertha Billington at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Atchison, Kan. Jacob was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II. He worked at IBM as an electrical engineer and was part of the SAGE Air Defense System. On Dec. 31, 1991, Jacob retired from IBM after 41 1/2 years of service. He was a member of the Golden Kiwanis.

Jacob is survived by his sons, Michael of Albertville, Minn., Richard ( Beverly) of Rochester and Douglas of Rochester; five grandchildren, Brian (Sherry) Sanders, Victoria (Michael) Rietz, Daniel Sanders, Gregory (Karen) Sanders, David (Adrianne) Sanders; 10 great-grandchildren, Jeffrey Sanders, Christopher, Domonique and Alixx Hengl, Emma and Isaac Rietz and Ryan, Kyle, Peter and Lewis Sanders and sister-in-law, Amy Sanders of Sherwood, Ariz.

Jacob was preceded in death by his loving wife, Bertha; brother, Reo; and his parents, Lemuel and Edna.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 21, at Ranfranz & Vine Funeral Homes, 5421 Royal Place NW, Rochester.
