James A. Hopkins — Rochester

James A. Hopkins, of Rochester, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Friday, Jan. 4, 2013. He will be remembered as a man who lived his faith and deeply loved his family.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 12, at 11 a.m. at Salem Road Covenant Church, 3401 Salem Road S.W., in Rochester, with the Rev. Mark Evinger officiating.

Jim was born March 19, 1933, in rural Mantorville. He attended school in Mantorville and graduated from there.

He joined the Air Force in 1952, serving in the Korean War and was discharged in 1956. Jim began working for IBM in 1956. On July 5, 1958, he married Sharon Lundgren at United Lutheran Church in Zumbrota.

In 1979, he was transferred to Tucson, Ariz., where he retired in 1989. While in Tucson, Jim was active in church work and in singing groups. In 2000 they returned to Minnesota. He was an avid singer and enjoyed watching sports.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon; two sons, Ronald (Sarah) and Richard (SooHea); daughter-in-law, Carolyn Hopkins; and 10 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, and a son, Robert James.
