James Leo Ernst — Plainview

James Leo Ernst, 61, of Plainview, died Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013, following a brief battle with cancer.

Jim was born to Robert and Mary (Welp) Ernst on Aug. 7, 1952, in Rochester. He was a 1970 graduate of Elgin-Millville High School. Jim was a diverse individual who had many talents. Among them were farming, laboratory technician, construction and a special gift for furniture making.

He is survived by a son, Lucas Ernst of Rochester; and two daughters, Kari (Troy) Lodahl of Austin and Hannah Ernst of Rochester; and six grandchildren. Brothers are, John (Patty) Ernst of Elgin and Joe (Sandy) Ernst of Plainview; and sisters, Kathy (Don) Olson and Jean (Mike) Kruger both of Plainview.

He was preceded in death by a son, Leo James and his parents.

A memorial service will be held at the Elgin Cemetery on Saturday, Nov. 2, at 4 p.m. Friends and family are invited to attend.

Memorials for Jim can be given to Trinity Lutheran Church of Elgin or the Mayo Clinic Hospice Program.
