James Sargent — Wabasha
James Louis "Loo" Sargent, a son of William and Cal (Longhway) Sargent, was born Jan. 19, 1953, in Wabasha. He died Aug. 10, 2015, from cirrhosis of the liver after a long struggle with alcoholism. He died at peace and with family.
He is survived by his wife, Joni Sargent, Wabasha; daughter, Amanda Sargent, Everson, Wash.; three grandchildren, Charlie and Eemer O'Connell, Everson, Wash., and Jase Linder, Nelson, Wis.; two stepsons, Marco Garza, Nelson, Wis., and David Garza, Burnsville; three brothers and a sister-in-law, Billy Sargent, of Bend Ore, John and Ruth Sargent, of Duluth, and Michael Sargent, of Berkeley, Calif.
He was a father, a brother, a best friend, an artist, a comedian, an actor, a manager, a philosopher, a world traveler and a wanderer. And above all, he was a giver.
Upon hearing that it was his time, and with clear understanding, he wished nothing more than to pass along the following lesson: Be generous to everyone, kill them with kindness, and you will receive so much more from giving all that you have, than the receivers.
There will be a gathering of family and friends at the Wabasha Beach Park today at 5:30 p.m., where stories and memories will be shared. An interment service will be on Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. at Riverview Cemetery in Wabasha.
The Abbott Funeral Home of Wabasha is in charge of arrangements. www.abbottfh.com.
