Janet R. McCann Robinson - Tecumseh, Mich.
ROCHESTER — Janet Ruth McCann Robinson, born on May 2, 1917, in Scotland, Indiana, died Friday, March 5, 2010, in Rochester, Minnesota.
She was preceded in death by her parents, the Reverend Mr. J. Harvey McCann and Grace (Clark) McCann, as well as her husband, Charles E. Robinson. Janet and Charles were married July 5, 1940, and he died in 1993.
Janet graduated from Webster High School in Scotch Ridge, Ohio, in 1934, received a B.S. degree in education from Bowling Green State University in 1938, an M.A. in education from the University of Michigan in 1952, and an Ed.S. in Special Education Administration from Michigan State University in 1970.
She worked as an educator of the deaf at Michigan School for the Deaf, and Upjohn School in Michigan, later filling the role of Teacher Counselor in the Kalamazoo school system. She also taught special education in Tecumseh, Mich., rounding out her career in education as Curriculum Resource Specialist for Lenawee County in Michigan. She operated a sewing studio in Tecumseh for several years after retiring from the school system.
Janet was active in churches all her life, with many years in the First Presbyterian Church in Tecumseh and the West Adrian UCC. Her activities included ADK (Alpha Delta Kappa) and PDK (Phi Delta Kappa) education sororities, AAUW (American Association of University Women), AARP, Tecumseh Business & Professional Women's Club, Zonta International, theater groups in Adrian, Mich., and Tecumseh, Mich., serving on the board of Hope Community Center in Adrian for a number of years, and many more.
She is survived by her daughters, Kathryn (James) Albert of Rochester, Minn., and Ruth (Ron) Waybrant of Grand Rapids, Mich.; and her grandchildren, Meredith Waybrant and Nate (Tara) Waybrant. This gracious lady will be greatly missed by her family, including her siblings, Martha (George) Madaras, Irvine (Woodie) McCann and John (Leona) McCann, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
A memorial service will be held in Michigan later in the year.
