Janice L. Klindworth — Lake City

Janice L. Klindworth, 90, of Lake City, passed away Saturday, Aug. 9, 2014, at the Lake City Care Center.

Janice Laura Iona Sprick was born Aug. 18, 1923, in Mount Pleasant Township, Wabasha County, to Raymond and Laura (Leiter) Sprick. She became a child of God through baptism and confirmation. Janice graduated from Lincoln High School, Lake City, in 1940. In 1941, she completed teachers training in Red Wing, and then received her associate's degree in education in Winona. Janice taught in rural Wabasha County Schools for 6 years. She married Frederick Klindworth on June 7, 1946, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Lake City. They farmed in the Oak Center area for many years and moved to Lake City in 1976. Frederick passed away in June 1970.

Janice taught Sunday school at Trinity Lincoln for 10 years and was the Ladies Aid president for five years. She was the first president of the Hiawatha Valley Lutheran Women's Missionary Society. She was an active member of LWMS for many years. Janice worked as a waitress for several years at the Anchor Inn and was a noon cook at the Harbor House and Port of Call for 19 years. She also worked for Semcac Senior Dining for five years. Janice was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, St. John's Altar Guild and St. John's Ladies Aid. She also volunteered for many activities at the church and school. Janice became a resident of the Lake City Care Center in February 2012. She loved crossword puzzles, sewing and puzzles and was an excellent cook. She greatly enjoyed time with her family, especially babysitting for her grandchildren.

Janice is survived by three sons, Robert (Martha "Marti") of Mankato, Roland (Carol) of Lake City and Randal (Cathy) of Zumbro Falls; nine grandchildren, Robert "Bob" Klindworth, Jr. of White Bear Lake, Lisa (Rick) Hermanson of Madison, Wis., Michael Klindworth of Winona, Debra Klindworth of Mankato, Josh (Karen) Klindworth of Kenyon, Troy (Sarah) Klindworth of Pine Island, Amanda (Rick) Braithwaite of Kenyon, Jeremy Klindworth and Keith Klindworth, of both of Lake City; 15 great-grandchildren; one sister, Marilyn Klindworth of Plainview; and one brother, Frederick (Alice) Sprick of Lake City.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick on June 22, 1970, two brothers and a granddaughter.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, Aug. 13, at 11 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Lake City, with the Rev. John C. Berg officiating. Burial will be at Lincoln Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday, Aug. 12, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Mahn Family Funeral Home Anderson-Peterson Chapel in Lake City. Friends may also call one hour before the service at the church.
