Janis was born on March 13, 1927 in rural Lake City to William & Amanda (Hoops) Tiedeman. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1945. Janis married Wilbert “Bud” Rabe on September 25, 1946 at Lincoln Trinity Lutheran Church Rural Zumbro Falls. She was an avid gardener maintaining a vegetable garden and flowers. She canned and froze vegetables and offered produce from the garden to everyone! She would ask you if you wanted a cabbage or tomatoes and it did not matter what your answers was, she would send you home with 3 cabbages and a huge pile of tomatoes. She especially liked her raspberry patch and each Christmas, children and grandchildren would receive 6 jars of raspberry jelly. She enjoyed baking and usually brought multiple types of cookies and bars to family gatherings. No one ever left Janis’s home hungry. Janis enjoyed being outside, taking walks, playing golf, cross country skiing. She mowed her own yard until she was 90. Playing euchre was a favorite pastime and family members always wanted to be her partner because she was pretty good at it.
