Jerry R. Bly — Spring Valley

Private family services for Jerry R. Bly will be held Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012, at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Spring Valley, with Father Marreddy Pothireddy officiating.

The public may gather for a time of fellowship and lunch at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, at the church hall.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20, at Hindt Funeral Home in Spring Valley.

Jerry Bly, 76, of Spring Valley, died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, at his home.

Jerry was born July 29, 1936, to Glenn Jr. and Amber (Rucker) Bly in Spring Valley. He spent his entire life in Spring Valley, other than serving in the Army from Sept. 26, 1954, to Dec. 31, 1961. On Oct. 24, 1959, Jerry was united in marriage to Carol Sauer in Granville, Iowa.

He was devoted to his family and loved to garden and spend time walking about his "place." Animals of all kinds were drawn to him and he enjoyed sharing his farm with them.

He will be remembered for his feisty spirit, but although he was small in stature, he had a big heart and would do anything for family or friends. He will be greatly missed by all.

He is survived by his children, Perry (Kim) Bly of Brandon, S.D., Charles (Lisa Kleeberger) Bly of Kasson and Amber (Andy) Pepper of Marion, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Becky Bly, Megan Bly, Chris Bly, Molly Bly, Jessica Pepper, Benjamin Pepper and Jamie Pepper; sisters, Evelyn (Ray) Voigt of Taopi, Irene (Bob) Hyland of Austin,  Patty (Steve) Davis of Lime Springs, Iowa, Judy Heidtke of Spring Valley, Joan Harang of Lake Mills, Iowa, Deborah (Karl) Hoefs of Spring Valley and Carolyn (Bob) Omar of Lime Springs Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Carol; grandson, Brandon Bly; and two brothers, Carrol and Robert.
