Joanne Damon — Minneapolis
Joanne Elaine (Poll) Damon, 85, a Rochester resident for 50 years, was born Oct. 14, 1930, in St Peter, Minn., to the Rev. Charles Arthur Poll and Lula Marie Williams Poll.
She passed peacefully on Sunday (June 12, 2016) at her home at The Waters on 50th Senior Living in Minneapolis.
Joanne was a longtime employee of the Mayo Clinic, as supervisor of the Sewing Department. Earlier in her career, she also worked at Ability Building Center, Sandy's Draperies, and Dayton's. Joanne studied at MacPhail Center for Music in Minneapolis, teaching private piano and organ lessons throughout her adult life, and she played keyboard for the Mayo Clinic "Notochords," a big band and jazz ensemble. She was an organist and pianist at Meadow Park Church of Christ (Rochester) for many decades.
She is survived by her beloved children, James Damon (Karen) of Broken Arrow, Okla., Susan Werre (Jim) of Edina, Minn., and Robert Damon (Michelle) of Apple Valley, Minn.; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Joanne is also survived by siblings, Marilyn Dickie (Mel) of Rochester, Arthur Poll recently of Cleveland, Minn., and now Minneapolis, and Barbara Miracle of Xenia, Ohio; and many nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Arthur and Lula Marie Poll, a brother, Donald Poll, and dear family members, Amy Poll (sister-in-law) and Ken Miracle (brother-in-law).
There will be an informal memorial service and reception for Joanne's family and friends from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. July 23 with an informal service at 4 p.m. at Eagan Hills Church, 700 Diffley Road, Eagan. A private family burial is planned on July 24 at Scotch Lake Cemetery in Cleveland, Minn.
