John C. Lauffer — Rochester

John C. Lauffer, 80, of Rochester, died Thursday, April 3, 2014, at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born March 17, 1934, in Pittsburgh, Pa., to Joseph Iddings and Beulah Grace (Kline) Lauffer.He graduated from Penn Township High School in Harrison City, Pa., and Washington and Jefferson College in Washington, Pa. On Aug. 27, 1954, he married Betty Errett in Jeannette, Pa. While in college he was in ROTC training during college and entered the military as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army. Following graduation he was stationed at Fort Sill, Okla., and was honorably discharged in 1957. After the service he was a cost accountant before entering seminary at Gettysburg Lutheran Seminary in Gettysburg, Pa. He graduated with a masters in Theology.He served in the Lutheran church for 12 years. After his retirement from the ministry he sold real estate and drove bus for the Rochester School District and Mayo Clinic.

He enjoyed sharing his faith with those he came in contact with and loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a member of the Rochester Assembly of God Church in Rochester.

John is survived by his wife of 59 years, Betty, of Rochester; and his two sons, Jim (Kim) Lauffer of Northumberland, Pa., and Mark (Theresa) Lauffer of Frisco, Texas; his two daughters Joyce (Roger) Womeldorf of Lanesboro and Marilynn (Lonnie) Rudolph of Blaine; nine grandchildren, Brian (Amanda) Lauffer of Maryland, Stacey Lauffer of Pennsylvania, Joylin Womeldorf of Minnesota, Rachelle Womeldorf of Minnesota, Shamiah (Heather) Womeldorf of Minnesota, Jedediah Womeldorf of Minnesota, Shoshana (John) Hahn of Minnesota, Elyssa Rudolph of Minnesota and Aaron Rudolph of Minnesota; three great-grandchildren, Adalyn Womeldorf, Clementine Lauffer and Evan Gilroy; and a sister, Jane Pickell of Fort Worth, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his twin sons, David and Duane.

The memorial service will be Thursday, April 10, at 11 a.m., with visitation starting at 10 a.m. at the Rochester Assembly of God, with Pastors Jim Filbeck and Bruce Kallies officiating. Burial will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery with full military honors.
