John Leonard Anderson — Zumbrota
John Leonard Anderson, 90, of Zumbrota, died Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014, at his home.
He was born Oct. 1, 1923, in St. Paul, to Leonard and Signe (nee Dahlquist) Anderson. John was the younger of two children. He served in the United States Army and graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Michigan State University. John started his veterinary career in Glenwood, and then moved to Zumbrota and built his first clinic in 1952, where he worked for over 50 years.
He was the eternal optimist and had an infectious zest for life. John loved his family, getting up every day to work as a large animal veterinarian, his faith, and contributing to the community he lived in. His pastimes included golf, bridge and downhill skiing.
John is survived by his wife of 61 years, Patricia; his children, Michael (Amber Cook) Anderson of Lynden, Wash., Sue Elmer of St. Louis Park, Matt (Stacie) Anderson and Jack (Renee) Anderson, both of Zumbrota and Chris (Tom) Hall of Dillon, Colo.; grandchildren, James (Brooke) Anderson, Hans Anderson, Tristan (Ava) Anderson, Tyler (Brianne) Robinson, Abbey Elmer, Arthur Elmer, Brady Robinson, Lane Anderson, Gretta Anderson, Chase Anderson and Neva Anderson; and great-grandchild, Raven Anderson.
John was preceded in death by parents, Leonard and Signe Anderson and sister, Jean Anderson.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 1, at United Redeemer Lutheran Church in Zumbrota, with Pastor Susan Vikstrom officiating.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28, at Mahn Family Funeral Home – Larson Chapel in Zumbrota, and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Memorials are preferred to United Redeemer Lutheran Church, American Heart Association, Macular Degeneration Foundation, or to a charity of your choice.
