John S. McKenzie, Jr.— St. Louis Park

The funeral Mass for John S. McKenzie, Jr., will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake City, with Father Joseph Pete officiating. Burial will be in Frontenac Cemetery at 3 p.m. Monday, with military rites by the Lake City American Legion Post 110 and the Lake City VFW Post 8729.

Mr. McKenzie, 89, of Hopkins, formerly of Lake City, died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012, at Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park.

John Shebat McKenzie, Jr., was born Feb. 27, 1923, in St. Paul, to John and Florence (Leper) McKenzie, Sr. He attended elementary and high school at the Mary E. McCahill Institute in Lake City, graduating in 1941. He attended St. John's University in Collegeville, graduating in 1948 with a degree in Philosophy.

John served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946 in the Pacific Theater as a Mine Sweeper. John married Mary Ann Burke on Feb. 2, 1950, in Waco, Texas; they later divorced. He later married Audrey Wufel. He owned and operated McKenzie Company in Lake City with his twin brother David, retiring in 1980.

He loved to play bridge, golf and go boating on Lake Pepin.

John is survived by his wife, Audrey McKenzie, of St. Louis Park; four sons, Stephen (Jill) McKenzie, of New Jersey, John S. McKenzie III, of Belle Plaine, Roderick McKenzie, of Seattle, Wash., and Michael (Marcy) McKenzie, of Plymouth; one daughter, Zona McKenzie, M.D., of Eastsound, Wash.; his twin brother, David McKenzie, of Lake City; three sisters, Kathryn Baker and Jean (Bill) Lee, both of Edina and Janet Perrizo, of River Falls, Wis.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Thomas, and one sister, Mary Pat Coyle.

Friends and family may visit from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 30, at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake City, and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church.
