Joyce Margaret Wilson — Niles, Ohio

Joyce Margaret Wilson, 81, longtime Niles, Ohio, resident, died peacefully Friday evening, July 3, 2015, at Shepherd of the Valley Howland.

Joyce was born Oct. 7, 1933, in Ellesmere Port, England, to George Arthur Britton and Hilda Eliza (Pritchard) Britton, both deceased.

She was preceded in death by her brother, James Stewart Britton, who had immigrated to Caledon, Ontario, Canada.

Joyce married Roy George Wilson of Sharon, Pa., on Jan. 23, 1954, in Ellesmere Port during Roy's time in the U.S. Army, and immigrated with him to the United States upon his discharge in March 1954. They eventually relocated to Niles, Ohio, in 1965. Roy was a longtime employee at RMI and passed away suddenly in 1988.

Joyce is survived by her children, David Keith (Debra) Wilson of Seymour, Ind., Paul Brian Wilson of Tallmadge, Ohio and Karen Lynn (Lee) Palmer of Burghill, Ohio; by grandchildren, Gabriel Jacob (Sarah) Wilson of Seymour, Ind., Jesse Michael Roy Wilson of Brownsburg, Ind., and Allyson Kaitlin Palmer of Rochester; and by great-granddaughters, Viviana Grace Wilson and Genevieve Claire Wilson, both of Seymour, Ind.

Joyce formerly had been employed by Eastgate Pharmacy in Warren, Ohio, by Drs. Elston and Lazor of Warren, and by Warren General Hospital. She was an accomplished cook, baker, seamstress, knitter and flower gardener, and was not intimidated by hard work nor by lack of training in tackling tasks as varied as re-upholstery or plumbing or home remodeling. She will be remembered for her gentle nature, humility, and compassion for the less fortunate among us including creatures great and small.

The family would like to thank the staff of Vista Center at the Ridge, Shepherd of the Valley Howland, and MVI Hospice for their caring services.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Holloway-Williams Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 611 Robbins Ave., Niles, Ohio. Calling hours will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 7. No service or memorial is planned.

In lieu of flowers, please offer donations to the humanitarian or animal welfare service of your choice.
