Judy Miller — Hampton, Iowa

Judy Miller passed from her earthly life to her Heavenly life Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at 4:49 p.m. at the Baber Hospice House in Fort Dodge, Iowa.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. today, March 19, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Humboldt, Iowa, with Fr. James Tigges officiating.

Visitation was from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, March 18, at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt, and 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. today at the church. A parish rosary was held at 5 p.m., and parish scripture service at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Once diagnosed with MS 32 years ago, and Pulmonary Fibrosis three years ago, Judy Miller never gave up, never complained, maintaining a brave and cheerful outlook of an optimistic future. Filled with compassion and interest in others, she loved and lived life to the fullest.



Judith Kay Skifter, known to her family and friends as Judy, was born May 20, 1942, to Ralph and Lorraine Skifter and grew up in Grand Meadow, where she attended and graduated from Grand Meadow High School. She then attended Austin Technical School in Austin. She graduated and began her career as a beautician working in various shops, and was an owner-operator of her own shop located in her home. After moving to Humboldt, Iowa, she enjoyed working as a customer service representative for Northwestern Bell and a bank teller at Home Federal Savings and Loan.

On a dare, she began a pen-pal relationship with serviceman Richard Miller, who was stationed in Germany. It was not long after the two were united in marriage on Nov. 3, 1962. They lived in Austin and later moved to Humboldt, Iowa.

Judy was a member of Saint Mary's Parish in Humboldt. She enjoyed her family, camping, square dancing, genealogy and music. If the van was backing out of the driveway she was in it and ready to go.

Judy is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Richard "Dick" of Humboldt; her loving children, Gary (Karen) of Oneida, N.Y., and Teri (Dan) Glynn of Grand Meadow; the apples of her eye, her grandchildren, Melessa (Dave) Smelcher of Boone, Iowa, Nathan (Jessica) Glynn, Winona, Abbie (Jeremy) Gwilt Rochester, Nicholas Glynn, Rochester, Allison Glynn, Grand Meadow, Morgan and Matthew Miller, Oneida; great-grandsons, Mason Smelcher, Boone, Iowa, and Keagan and Silas Glynn of Winona; siblings James (Marceil) Skifter, Jane Threlkeld, Jerry (Karen) Skifter, Jay (Deb) Skifter, Joe (friend, Chuck) Skifter, Julie Skifter, Janet (Robin) Lorenzen; many fond nieces and nephews; and brother-in-law, Rodney Appel, Charles City, Iowa.

She was predeceased by her parents, Ralph and Lorraine Skifter; father- and mother-in-law, Earl and Irene Miller; sister-in-law, Jo Anne Appel; and brother-in-law, Brother Bruce Miller.
