Katherine M. Jax - Austin
AUSTIN — Katherine Margaret Jax, 100, of Austin, died Monday, May 24, 2010, at the Austin Medical Center.
Katherine Margaret Sahr was born September 3, 1909, in New Haven, Iowa, to Matthew and Clara (Klapperich) Sahr. The family moved to northern Wisconsin, where Katherine went to school and later worked in Wausau. On November 13, 1937, she married Edward Jax at St. Mary's Church in Wausau. They made their home in Austin and had one daughter, Bernadine. Katherine and Edward celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 1987.
Katherine was a homemaker; a member of St. Augustine's Church for over 70 years, St. Ann's Unit, the Catholic Order of Foresters for over 70 years, the Senior Citizens of Austin, Hormel Retirees, and Golden Age; and played 500 at the Moose. She enjoyed gardening, bingo, playing cards, traveling, the casino, watching the Twins, going out to eat, and gatherings with her family.
Survivors include her daughter, Sister Bernadine Jax, OSF, of Rochester; sisters, Florentina Richards of Merrill, Wis., and Margaret Juedes of Schofield, Wis.; brother, John (Betty) Sahr of Wausau, Wis.; sister-in-law, Anna Jax of Adams; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward on October 6, 1992; two brothers, Albert and Leon Sahr; two sisters, Leona Springer and Sister Mathea Sahr, FSPA.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 28, 2010, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin, with Father Joe Fogal officiating. There will be a 6:30 p.m. wake service on Thursday at Mayer Funeral Home, where friends may call from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friends may also call one hour before the service at the church on Friday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Memorials are preferred to St. Augustine Catholic Church or the donor's choice.
