Kenneth L. Egland — Rochester

Kenneth L. Egland, 92, of Rochester, died on Friday, June 17, 2016, at Season's Hospice House in Rochester after a short stay. The visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, June 20, 2016, at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Home with a memorial service beginning at 7:30 pm. The burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Webster City, Iowa.

Kenneth LeRoy Egland was born on Oct. 3, 1923, in Hamilton County near Jewell, Iowa, to Leonard and Mabelle Bessie (Hanson) Egland. In 1942, he was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. Kenneth's faith remained very important to him throughout his life.

He graduated from Webster City High School in 1940 at the age of 16. After high school, Kenneth worked and lived on a local farm. On March 13, 1944, he married Anna June Clair in Webster City, Iowa. Shortly after the marriage, Kenneth began a carpentry apprenticeship. He later formed a construction partnership with Jerry Michaelson. They built many commercial and residential buildings in the Jewell and Webster City area until 1958. He then farmed near Webster City, Iowa.

In 1969, he purchased his own farm near Eyota, Minn., and farmed until 1974. He later sold and invested in real estate, which he managed, and continued that into his retirement. Kenneth enjoyed reading, especially about farming, finance and real estate. He enjoyed listening to polka music, and visiting with his friends and family. His grandchildren were very special to him. He also spent a great deal of time helping others.

Kenneth is survived by his wife of 72 years, June; son, Loren (Cristina) Egland, of Antioch, Calif.; daughter, Jone Egland (Daniel) Trapp, of Mantorville; grandchildren; Summer Egland, Autumn (Jose) Agosto; Zachary and Zoey Trapp; great-grandchildren, Crystal and Violet Agosto.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his brother, Marion Egland; and sister, Virginia Barr Gartner.
