Kenneth L. Harcey - Lake City

Kenneth L. Harcey, 68, of Lake City, passed away Monday, March 5, 2012, at his home, after a short battle with lung cancer.

Ken was born Dec. 4, 1943, to Ralph and Ruby (Small) Harcey in Whitewater Township. He grew up in the St. Charles area and graduated from St. Charles High School in 1962. He served in the U.S. Army from 1963 to 1966, with his tour of duty including tours overseas in Pakistan and Turkey. Throughout his lifetime, he worked in a variety of careers including auto body repairs, law enforcement officer, insurance agent, U.S. Postal Service rural mail carrier in Lake City for 13 years retiring in 1999, and 28 years in the newspaper distribution business with his wife, Sharon, retiring in 2009.

He was married to Sharon (Passe) Gnotke-Harcey for 31 years.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon (Passe) Gnotke-Harcey of Lake City; children, Nicole Harcey of Elgin, Derrick (Morgan) Harcey of Murphy, Texas, and Bridget Harcey of Berkley, Calif.; step-children, Thomas (Nicole) Gnotke of Frontenac and Tammy (Christopher) Peterson of Frontenac; five grandchildren and five step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers, Stanley (Patricia) Harcey of St. Charles and Glenn (Bonnie) Harcey of Hill City; three sisters, Margie (Curt) Persons of St. Charles, Donna (Dick) Wright of Whitewater, Kan., and Joyce Narveson of Madison, Mo.; three sisters-in-law, Doreen Harcey of Arizona, Betty Harcey of Baxter and Sue Harcey of Rochester; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Ruby Harcey; four brothers, Lavern, Larry, Roger and Daniel; and one sister, Irene Becker.

Kenneth decided to donate his body to the Mayo Medical School Department of Anatomy.

A private memorial service is being planned for the immediate family.
