Kenneth Oscar Holtan - Hayfield

HAYFIELD — Kenneth Oscar Holtan (Kenny) died Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at his home in Hayfield.

Ken was born in Olmsted County on September 1, 1947, to Hertha and Oscar Holtan. He grew up helping his father on the farm, before being employed by Century Plastic and Nelson School Bus Service for over twenty years. He was in the Air Force from 1967 to 1969, and did a tour in Vietnam. He married Linda Opsahl on November 10, 1979. They resided in Hayfield.

Ken enjoyed visiting with his friends at the Hayfield bowling alley and vacationing during the summers in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, to watch the Air Show. He ate out at Chow’s in Rochester and Godfather’s Pizza in Austin frequently. He enjoyed spending time with his sons and doing yardwork. He had a genuine ability to comfort those who were sick or those who just needed to have an ear to listen. He enjoyed visits with his sisters and was fond of past memories.

He will be missed deeply by his wife, Linda Holtan; his son Brandon (Veronica) and two granddaughters, Phoebe and Dylan Holtan, of Rochester, and his son Korey (Michelle) Holtan of Rochester; his sisters, Lucille (Rich) Bernard of Florida and Eileen Holtan of Minneapolis; his mother-in-law, Bonnie (Dale) Wiste of Austin; his father-in-law, Elmer (Tove) Opsahl of Rochester; his sisters-in-law, Kathy (Greg) Hulst of Waltham, Pam (Larry) McAlister of Austin, Cheryl (Jim) Jensen of Austin and Carrie (Harry) Kosuge of Glenville; and many nieces and nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Hertha Holtan, and his father, Oscar Holtan.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on May 21, 2010, at Crane Chapel Church, 1111 9th St. N.E., Austin.
