Lance Michael Hammes
Lance Hammes, age 34 of Rochester, MN, lost his battle with mental illness on Monday, July 27, 2020. Lance was born March 25, 1986 in Phoenix, AZ to Frank Hammes and Becky Smith. The family moved home, to Rochester, MN, where Lance grew up in the middle of a pack of rambunctious brothers. Lance was raised by his loving parents, father Frank Hammes, stepmother Jean Feehan, and mother Becky Smith. He had many adventures in his youth. He loved playing football, fishing, paintball, riding motor cross, target shooting, and camping. He attended Kellogg Middle School and Century High School. Lance was intelligent, quick witted, and loved by all. In his adult life, he became a skilled HVAC tradesman. He was a dedicated employee who worked at Superior Mechanical for many years.
With his free time, Lance loved to ride his Harley, listen to music, disk golf and rock climb. He enjoyed spending time with his father and brothers, their laughter was contagious. A curious tinkerer, he always enjoyed taking things apart to learn their inner workings. He constantly had a project going. Many family members and friends have a piece of Lance craftsmanship in their homes. He was truly a jack of all trades.
Lance met and fell in love with his wife Sytha (Mao) Hammes in 2006, and the couple wed in 2016. They have two beautiful daughters, Savannah (6) and Sydney (3). A loving and dedicated husband and father, Lance loved building home improvements for his children. He crafted a chicken coop, climbing wall, zip line, tire swings and so much more. His love for fireworks made the Fourth of July one of his favorite holidays to spend with his whole family. Above all, Lance and his family just enjoyed spending time together. Lance is lovingly remembered by his wife Sytha, his daughters Savannah and Sydney, his father Frank, his step-mother Jean, his brothers Nick (Catherine), Nate (Mindi), A.J., Ethan (Laura), his sister Rachel (Tim) Mayville, his half-brother Matthew (Courtney) Romstad, his stepbrothers John and Michael Hofbauer, his stepsister Sarah (James) Erickson, and his grandfather Ralph (Launie) Smith. He was preceded in death by his mother Becky Smith as well as his grandparents Joe and Shirley Hammes, and grandmother Marian Smith. Lance touched many lives and will truly be missed by everyone!
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2020 from 2:00 – 4:30 at the Eagles Club.
