Lee Roy Joseph Bordelon Sr. — Mantorville

Lee Roy Joseph Bordelon Sr., 84, of Mantorville died of natural causes on Friday, Aug. 14, 2015, at St. Marys Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Dolores Bordelon, and his three children, Cheryl Purdue (Richard Purdue) of Byron, Bruce Bordelon (Kristin Bordelon) of Mantorville, and Lee Roy Bordelon Jr. (Connie Bordelon) of Mantorville. He also is survived by his nine grandchildren, Annette, Meredith, and Chris Purdue, Bridget, Brian and Susanna Bordelon, Chanda Hassemer, Brandon and Bradley Bordelon; and his five great-grandchildren.

Lee Roy was born Oct. 31, 1930, in New Orleans, La. On Dec. 14,1947, he married Dolores L. Brouillette in Moreauville, La.

Lee Roy was a longtime commercial beekeeper and raised queen bees for innumerable other commercial beekeepers, beginning at the age of 14. This passion and knowledge were passed on to many friends and his sons and son-in-law. Because of his honey production and bee raising, Lee Roy traveled often between Louisiana, Texas and Minnesota. In addition, he was a member of the Sue Bee Honey Association and the American Beekeeping Federation. He actively was involved at his home parish of Holy Family Catholic Church in Kasson as well as his church in Jasper, Texas. Lee Roy was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a private pilot and, for many years, enjoyed flying with friends in Texas. Five years ago, he became involved in Model T's and enjoyed driving through the countryside with his "Tin Lizzie."

A traditional Catholic Mass will be held in celebration of his life on Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2015, at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Kasson. Visitation will be available one hour preceding the Mass.
