Linda Anderson — Stewartville
The funeral service for Linda S. Anderson, 65, of Stewartville, will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 19, 2015, at the Grace Evangelical Free Church in Stewartville with the Rev. John Grams officiating. Burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery in Stewartville.
Linda died on Saturday, June 13, 2015, from complications of a short illness with gastric cancer at Seasons Hospice in Rochester where she had been a resident for one week.
Linda Sue Harris was born on June 26, 1949, in Missouri, to Warren and Clara (Hoffman) Harris. She grew up in the Kansas City and Joplin, Mo., areas, moving often with her family as a child. She attended and graduated from Wyandotte High School in 1967. She was employed as an assembly worker for Bendix Corp. in Kansas City for a few years. Linda was married in Kansas City to Donald G. Anderson. They lived in Kansas City and were later divorced.
Linda was employed for a number of years at Freeman Hospital in Joplin, Mo., and also attended the nursing program at Missouri Southern State College, earning her LPN certification. She later returned to Missouri Southern State eventually receiving her bachelor's degree in nursing in 2001. She moved to Rochester in 2001, where she was employed as a RN at St. Marys Hospital, Mayo Clinic. Her nursing career consisted of experiences on Domitilla 4, medical cardiac and most recently on Station 82 orthopedics.
Linda was a member of Grace Evangelical Free Church in Stewartville where she enjoyed volunteering with its Awanas program, joining in its women's Bible study group and also volunteering at Ronald McDonald House in Rochester. She enjoyed following current events and watching TV news and Christian television. Linda always enjoyed getting together with family at reunions and living near her son, Greg, and his wife, Amanda. She especially enjoyed watching her grandsons grow up and attending their school events.
Linda is survived by her son, Greg (Amanda) Anderson; her grandsons, Aiden and Evan of Stewartville; one brother and three sisters, Chester (Margaret) Harris of Joplin, Mo., Shirley (Roger) Ash of Joplin, Mo., Jane Harris of Independence, Mo., and Helen Jo (Lester) Gillette of Independence, Mo.; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Lee Roy Harris.
A time of visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 18, 2015, at Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday morning.
The family suggests memorials to Ronald McDonald House or Seasons Hospice, both in Rochester.
